Award winning designer Richard Glass uses an eclectic mix of traditional and modern techniques to produce highly individual, intricate designs that cannot be made by mass produced manufacturing.
Richard’s studio is set in an historic pottery in Devon.
The glassblowing studio, established over 30 years ago, has seen many glassblowers over the years. Each has brought skills from some of the finest glassworks in the country.
New work captures the essence of his location in the South West of England, with inspiration taken from the landscape and coastline around him.
“I am constantly developing new ideas and techniques, using new materials. This, in combination with traditional glassmaking skills that have been handed down from one craftsman to another over generations, allows me to develop ideas at the forefront of glass design.
Glassmaking certainly awakens the senses, in a very elemental way. Molten glass is both beautiful and awe inspiring, it really feels as if it has its own organic lifeforce, which is perhaps what Richard taps into when he’s creating his sculptures.

My work will evolve, forms & colours
will change with each new piece. Like most glassmakers I want to be consistently inconsistent.
The fluidity of hot glass should be preserved in the movement or pattern of a piece. I still believe this and hope you find this true in my work.
I want to be engaged with each piece, and make decisions as I go,” he says. “The materials tell me when they’re ready.” – Richard Glass
